FabFilter Twin 3.10 adds MPE and over 200 new presets

FabFilter has given Twin 3 a more expressive performance layer. Version 3.10 adds MPE support and a sizeable preset refresh, making this a useful update for players who want more movement from individual notes.

Twin 3.10: a performance-focused synth update

FabFilter released Twin 3.10 on 29 October, adding MPE and Note Expression support to its software synthesizer. With MPE enabled, pitch bend works per note rather than moving the whole chord together. Timbre and Lift are new input options for MIDI modulation sources. The change is most relevant to expressive-controller players: individual notes can carry different gestures within the same performance.

More than 200 presets, with expression already mapped

The update includes over 200 factory presets from bManic, Bigtone and Christian Laffitte. FabFilter has also prepared the factory library for MPE controllers. That gives existing owners new material to explore without rebuilding every modulation assignment. Older presets gain polyphonic pitch bend and aftertouch through their existing MIDI sources; Timbre and Lift need additional routing where the original sound did not use them.

The synth underneath remains Twin 3

This is an update to Twin 3, rather than a replacement instrument. Its four oscillators, four filters, effects and drag-and-drop modulation remain the foundation. The attraction is how those sounds can be played: a held pad or chord can become more animated without drawing a separate automation lane for every gesture. How useful that feels will depend on the controller, the host and the particular patch.

Free for owners, with a sequencing fix too

Twin 3.10 is free for existing customers. FabFilter says it is backwards compatible and can be installed over the existing version using the latest Twin 3 or Total Bundle installer. An arpeggiator fix also addresses lost sync and repeated triggers under heavy MIDI-controller traffic. For owners, the decision is an update check; for new buyers, the relevant question is whether an expressive subtractive synth fills a gap in their setup.
